Isotropix, a privately held software company developing high-end innovative graphics software solutions, announced Clarisse iFX 1.0, a hybrid of a renderer, compositor and animation editor, new 2D/3D package Clarisse iFX 1.0 is intended to enable artists to develop complex real-world 3D layouts while interacting continually with the final image.
The software enables users to work on layouts in context, dragging and dropping geometry, instances and materials while continually seeing the results displayed with final lighting and effects.
The package may be live-linked to other 3D packages in a production pipeline, including ZBrush. Changes made to an asset in another application are automatically propogated to Clarisse iFX.
Designed for real-world production.
At its core is a “robust multi-threaded evaluation engine smart enough to avoid unnecessary re-computations when scene parameters are changed”. The engine detects and deletes redundant data to save memory.
The developer claims that the software is capable of handling scenes comprising billions of polygons and gigabytes of textures on standard modern workstations. The built-in renderer is CPU-based, and remains “perfectly smooth and interactive” even on lower-end laptops.
Playing nicely with other pipeline tools.
While Clarisse iFX provides toolsets for layout, instancing, shading and lighting, animation editing, rendering and compositing, it is not intended to generate geometry or rig or animate characters.
The raw assets can be generated in other software and imported via the OBJ or native LightWave file formats, including MDD. There’s no FBX support, but Pixologic’s GoZ and Alembic should be in the retail version.
The software provides its own fur generator and fur material, but hair dynamics must be imported.
Sam Assadian and Sebastien Guichou, Isotropix two founders, spent most of their careers in the animation industry finding innovative solutions to improve image creation process involving computer graphics.
Working in pair since 1996, they are internationally renowned for their very rare expertise. Indeed, beyond being first class graphics software engineers, founders are also high-end 3D artists and worked for feature films, TV, TV commercials, AAA game cinematics.
They evolved in prestigious animation studios. They were directly involved in the design and development of several production pipelines integrating most graphics software. They also developed many proprietary tools. This unusual career path gives them a very unique vision of the animation industry and its graphics software market.
Isotropix was born out of the observation that during these past 20 years, graphics software workflows became more and more complex and less and less well-adapted to artistic needs facing economic reality.
